New at Shorewood Hills Pool in 2012 - a much more natural and healthy filtration system! We are excited to say the least!
We are now using a certain variety of sphagnum moss, which acts like an absorptive filter, a buffer, and releases water conditioning agents to improve water clarity and quality while inhibiting biofilm formation. We still use a certain amount of chemicals in the pool - but much less than before (about 50% less!).
This more natural system is a huge benefit to swimmers - no more irritating side effects like burning eyes, dry skin and hair, yucky odors, faded swim wear. We think that the benefits to swimmers will be HUGE - it makes a much, much more pleasant swim experience.
And what is sphagnum moss? It is a soft, lush plant with small leaves that typically grows in bogs as a layer of vegetation, almost floating on the water underneath.
This special moss actively removes harmful ions from water through an ion-exchange process located within the pores of the leaves of moss. This ion-exchange process binds specific molecules such as iron, calcium, mercury, lead and cadmium. Once bound, the molecule is removed from the fluid. The moss likewise actively buffers the pH of a solution. Once the pH of a solution is set, these buffers keep the pH stable over a period of time.
The pool is so clean, it passes all regulatory requirements and meets all of the city/county, state, and EPA standards. Nothing but the best swim conditions for our members and guests!
We are excited to say that the sphagnum moss at Shorewood Pool will do most of the heavy lifting to make our pool cleaner and healthier than ever.
